When the Sun Goes Down [Howl at the Moon 1]

For three hundred and twelve years, he’d roamed the planet, content to be alone. He’d had his pack, his family, and he’d never bothered to want for anything more. Why be tied down to one person when he could have a buffet of warm and willing bodies parading through his bedroom.

Sex had always been a casual thing for Lawton Thorne. Hell, he didn’t even know the names of half the people he’d taken to his bed over the years. Somewhere in his sixties, he’d just stopped counting.

When the war first began, it came quietly. No one even knew it was happening until it was too late. Lawton didn’t know all the details, but from what he’d been able to piece together, some type of hacker war had erupted between the nations, each targeting the others technology systems. When the first nation fell in this war of dominance, the others quickly followed until none were left standing.

Missiles were launched, bombs detonated, and security systems infiltrated—all from computers with Wi-Fi capability. Amazing the things modern technology could accomplish, even destroying itself. No one knew exactly what eventually shut down all forms of technology, but he’d heard rumors of everything from electromagnetic wave surges to power pulses from satellites.

Not knowing or caring much about those types of things to begin with, Lawton didn’t worry with how it had come about. All he knew was it had, and he would have to learn to adapt or face certain annihilation.

With most of the world so heavily dependent upon technology, it hadn’t taken long for people to panic and discord to rage rampant. Genocide ensued. People became desperate and as history had proved, desperation led to bloodshed.

He couldn’t say what was happening around the rest of the world, but in the little town of Storm Creek, Connecticut where his pack had resided, the first year was the worst. Even werewolves, shifters, and vampires—who had been around long before the invention of such things as electricity and indoor plumbing—had apparently forgotten how to survive without their cell phones, running water, and microwaves.

Then one day The Regime had stepped in, prepared to solve everyone’s woes if they simply agreed to follow without question. In the two years since then, things had taken a drastic nosedive. It wasn’t easy hiding the existence of paranormals when so many of them decided the change in social status gave them hiatus from hiding out in the shadows.

After his own pack had been wiped out in the early stages of the war, Lawton had no desire to lead anyone. Fate, apparently, had a different plan for him, though. Now he was a reluctant alpha to a small group of Changelings—and a mate to the man currently slung over his shoulder.

No matter his past experiences with sex and relationships, he had a feeling that this time around, it was going to be anything but casual.
