EXCERPT
When
he arrived at work, the first order of business was to prepare for the annual
budget meeting, which involved getting the boardroom ready and making sure
everyone who needed to attend was going to show up. He was knee deep in emails
when he looked up to see a man standing over his desk.
“May
I help you, sir?” Josh automatically went into secretary mode, but then he took
a deeper look at the man. His scent was wild and musky, Josh took a deep breath
in to keep that scent with him he never wanted to forget it.
The
Armani charcoal-gray suit fit like it was tailor made for him, clinging to his
body in all the right places and it made Josh want to trace the muscles it
covered. The crisp white shirt showed off his deep, dark tan to perfection. He
had dark, slightly unruly hair, and the deepest, darkest chocolate-colored
eyes, fringed with inky black lashes. The aura that flowed off him said alpha
wolf to Josh. It was all he could do not to bare his neck in submission. His
stare had Josh almost forgetting his name. He couldn’t look away, no matter how
hard he tried.
“I
am Caleb Reese. You must be Joshua Perry.”
He
held his hand out, and Josh got up to shake it, thankful that his trembling
knees didn’t give out on him. The firm grip of Caleb’s hand in his felt like an
electric shock going up his arm and straight to his dick. He had never had such
a powerful reaction to anyone by just a handshake before, and this puzzled
Josh.
Josh
tried to get himself under control, but his wolf gave a silent whimper when he
let go of Caleb. He had no clue why his
body and wolf were on the “Let’s jump Caleb” cheering section. He did know he
had to shake himself out of it before he acted on that thought. He didn’t want Caleb’s first impression of
him to be that he was a sex fiend.
“Mr.
Fairbanks mentioned you were his very efficient secretary, and I would be a
fool to let you go.”
“Thank
you, sir,” Josh responded automatically. He was still a little dazed about
Caleb and his reaction to him, and he wasn’t processing all he was saying. He wanted to get closer and just rub up
against him. Gripping the desk, he barely managed to stop the urge to do just
that. He only hoped the other man hadn’t
noticed.
“I
wanted to introduce myself before the meeting later today.” Caleb’s
blinding-white smile had Josh entranced. “Harold Fairbanks stepped down last
night. I will be running things at this branch from now on,” he said in a crisp
New England accent that spoke of money and stature.
He
was stunned at the news his mentor and boss was stepping down with no notice
and equally confused about having feelings this strong for a man he’d just met.
