INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW
WELCOME READER SHERI!
Do you read the sex scenes first before reading the book?
Heck no, I like the buildup. I want to be invested before
the clothes come off.
In your opinion, what are the most important elements in a
good romance?
Attraction, believable situations for the most part( I do
like the occasional off the wall situation), I like lust a first sight, but a
friendship that turns into lust is also a great element for me.
How soon is too soon to say, "I love you"?
If you feel it, you feel it. I think it’s harder to have
instant “I love yous” believable in contemporary stories, paranormal get away
with it a bit more. I do love the stories where it’s more of a I think I’m
falling in love with you, that phrase at the right time makes me sigh with happiness.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Oh yes! I do like stories that are more lust at first
sight. I read Erotic Romance for a reason, I want to know they’ll fall in love,
if they fall into bed a few or twenty times first all the better.
Should a romance be mostly about the relationship, or
should there be an even mixture of romance and action?
I think it depends. Some stories that don’t hit an action
theme I read just to see the relationship build. Others I love the action and
romance to be about equal, overall I just love a great story.
What is something that will send you screaming out of a
book?
It’s usually something that is just wrong, either a hero
who just treats their hero/heroine like crap or cheats on them. Cheating is a
big no-no in my book. A hero cheats, and I have trouble forgiving them. I read
to escape how crappy the world is, I don’t want to read about the bad aspects
too much.
How much is too much when it comes to BDSM?
I haven’t found my limit yet. I’ve tried. Though things
like bathroom play or really extreme bleeding do make me go why am I reading
this. Lol I haven’t found a limit where I stopped reading but I also haven’t
read a true non consent, and I think that would be a serious hard limit for me.
What's the difference between a "bad" review and
a "negative" review?
A bad review isn’t handled constructively. They just tell
an author or reader this book sucks. A good negative review, will tell why this
book didn’t work for them and what they think the author could do to fix it
without getting sarcastic or hostile.
Do you think authors overreact to harsh criticism?
I don’t think they overreact. They are human and hearing
someone say the book they worked on for who knows how long is bad is painful. Though
reacting negatively in public can hurt the author, and I think that is unfair,
but they are in the public eye, and it’s never good to get angry in the public
eye.
What is your favorite sex position?
Hmmm...it’s a toss up. I really love Doggy Style, but I also
love the edge of the bed while my husband is standing. That allows for maximum
stimulation.
Is two better than one?
I’ve only ever been with one. But in books I like two, and
with toys I enjoyed the feeling of two. Yay for adventurous men!
How many is too many in a relationship?
I think anything more than 5 is starting to cause issues
unless the men are also bisexual, if they are all straight and there is a woman
involved, I always feel like they would just be waiting around to get some. Now
a ton of gay men in a relationship, I could be ok hanging out like a voyeur in
the bedroom, via a book of course.
Do you prefer internal (relationship) or external
(fighting the bad guy) conflict?
Hmmm…I think that depends on the story. I really like
stories with a lot of external action, but the occasional internal conflict do
show that they are human. Not everything is happy and sunshiny in a
relationship all the time, and I don’t want that kind of fakeness in my
stories.
Is there anything you won’t read?
Nope. I used to draw the line at F/F. But these days I
have great F/F authors I follow and even a few Trans stories. I read every
genre even nonfiction. I don’t read a ton of YA anymore, unless I already love
the author.
Do you like long series? Or do you think more than six
books is too much?
I LOVE long series. Especially if I get to peek in on past
characters, the longer a series the longer I get to escape into a world I love.
I really like finding a new series with an established and long list for me to
devour, usually in about a week.
How many chances will you give a new-to-you author before
you stop reading his/her books?
I’m pretty generous. I’ll give 3-4 chances as long as it
wasn’t something fundamental I didn’t agree with.
What is your opinion on capture fantasy?
I like them as long as I know it’s consensual. It’s
fantasy after all. As long as I don’t feel like someone is truly upset or being
hurt then I have trouble with them.
Do you have a favorite type of M/M pairing? (two alphas,
Dominant/submissive, alpha male with a smaller mate, etc.)
I really like two Alphas. Oh who am I kidding? I like all
M/M pairings.
What is your favorite sex toy?
My bullet vibe. My Rabbit is nice but my bullet is way
more versatile.
Is there anything you feel is being overdone right now?
I’m kind of burning out on BDSM stories with a
non-experienced submissive. Don’t get me wrong I get why they are popular, who
wouldn’t want to find the perfect rich Dom, who can turn you into the perfect
submissive. I just feel like a more experienced submissive is more believable
and they can go so much further with their relationship.
Is there anything you wish more authors wrote?
I want more world building, whether it’s something
completely foreign or just a slight variation on the real world. I think that’s
why I still read so much Paranormal romance.
How long do you like your books?
That depends on the author and my time. I love novellas
just as much as I love long meaty books. Some authors do novellas better than
others, and my favorites that can pull off a novella well are auto buys for me
because I know they are just this little escape I can finish in a night.
What is the one thing in a sex scene that will always get
your motor running?
Biting…nibbling…I really get going with a good biting of
the neck or other fun places. I think it’s my main instant turn on.
Does an author’s personal attitude affect if you will read
his/her books?
It can. In the past, I’ve stopped reading a favorite
series because the author came out and said some horrible things about fellow
authors and readers. I still don’t understand why they thought that was ok. I
understand being upset, but that is a vent for private, not a public blog post.
Is there anything else you want to say to authors?
Thank you for writing, so that I can escape with a good
book. Thank you for trusting me to love and understand your characters. Thanks
for sharing a piece of your soul.
WELCOME READER JIM!
Do you read the sex scenes first before reading the book?
In your opinion, what are the most important elements in a
good romance?
How soon is too soon to say, "I love you"?
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Should a romance be mostly about the relationship, or
should there be an even mixture of romance and action?
I think an even
mixture is the best idea; I want to
learn about the couple, both individually and as a couple, but even on ‘the
run’ during action can be a way to do this.
What is something that will send you screaming out of a
book?
Too many
inconsistencies. I hate it when rules
are established in a fantasy world, and then things start happening in
contradiction to these. It has made me
stop reading more than one book.
How much is too much when it comes to BDSM?
When there is too
much leather everything. BDSM is more a
state of mind than party favors.
What's the difference between a "bad" review and
a "negative" review?
Bad review: when
small-minded people get personal when doing a review, taking cheap shots at the
author. This has nothing to do with the
work reviewed. It’s petty and mean. I HATE petty and mean. Negative review: this is more in tune with
creative criticism, pointing out flaws without anything personal being meant.
Do you think authors overreact to harsh criticism?
I think it would be
hard not to. This is the author’s
creation that someone is criticizing.
What is your favorite sex position?
69 rimming.
Is two better than one?
Always.
How many is too many in a relationship?
This is dependent on
the people involved. If you can make it
work, more power to you. Personally, I
would be too jealous for more than one man in my life.
Do you prefer internal (relationship) or external
(fighting the bad guy) conflict?
I like a blend of
both, so I can’t say I really prefer either over the other.
Is there anything you won’t read?
I dislike anything
that is true horror.
Do you like long series? Or do you think more than six
books is too much?
I LOVE a long
series! This gives the reader a chance
to see characters as family in many ways.
(6 books is just getting started!)
How many chances will you give a new-to-you author before
you stop reading his/her books?
At least 2
books. If I don’t care for the writing
style after the 2nd book, I usually quit with that author. And, If I like the author, they have a fan
for life.
What is your opinion on capture fantasy?
Capture as in
abduction? If I’m reading this
correctly, this is kinda hot. J
Do you have a favorite type of M/M pairing? (two alphas,
Dominant/submissive, alpha male with a smaller mate, etc.)
I love 2 alphas, but
I have to tell you, there is something that calls to me about an alpha and a
submissive (that would be me, I put the s in D/s!) – having a protective,
loving alpha is so HOT.
What is your favorite sex toy?
Probably a small
dildo
Is there anything you feel is being overdone right now?
As much as I love
fated mates, I have to say this theme is everywhere right now; but, I still
love the idea.
Is there anything you wish more authors wrote?
More of the alphas
coming and taking the submissive types – where the submissive eventually comes
around to loving the alpha, even though they’ve been ‘taken’.
How long do you like your books?
40k is a good
length.
What is the one thing in a sex scene that will always get
your motor running?
Rimming. Gentle prep before the hot stuff.
Does an author’s personal attitude affect if you will read
his/her books?
Sometimes. I follow my authors on FB, and yes, I have to
say, sometimes what they are saying will affect my purchasing another book by
them.
Is there anything else you want to say to authors?
I am so glad that
the m/m fantasy/paranormal genre is there, and that you are writing them. I’ve been waiting all my life to read these
kinds of books, and will be forever grateful that you take the time to write
them.
I love the honesty in both interviews and the great questions. I have to agree that if an author is going to jump on the BDSM band wagon sometimes the inexperienced and frightened sub can get old.
ReplyDeleteAs far as anything that is too far in BDSM...I never want to read any one urinating or defecating on someone or lots of blood.

These are great! I'm enjoying the honest answers. Keep them coming!!!
ReplyDeleteThis really insightful and informative as far as not being alone in what I like and think as far as the answers to the questions.
ReplyDeletedebryant73@yahoo.com
This was a refreshing Q & A. I personally like long series that allow a glimpse of what's going on with past characters/couples or involves them later on down the line.
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me! I loved answering the questions. They were a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteLove the questions and the honest answers. =)
ReplyDeleteReader interviews--what a great idea! I'd love more m/m stories that deal with buddy-type pairings, as opposed to angsty ones...
ReplyDeletevitajex(at)aol(dot)com
I loved the interviews, and interviewing it's great.
ReplyDeleteI'm the kind a girl who likes to see the character that makes mistakes pay, so that's what I would like to see more, not that I dislike the intant forgiveness, is that I jus love to see them grovel.

Great interviews! Very honest and some very funny! I enjoyed them both!
ReplyDeletemorris.crissy@gmail.com
Fun interviews
ReplyDeleteI agree with alot of what was said. I do enjoy a long book that is engaging in every way. I love series books especially because I am emotionally attached to alot of the characters. You look forward to learning more about other characters. Each have their moment in the spotlight. KarenNY
ReplyDeleteThought the interviews were fun and interesting.
ReplyDeleteNikita Hobbs
Great questions and interesting answers from both speakers.

DeleteI'm loving these interviews.

Thanks for the great interviews guys.
ReplyDeleteGreat interviews. I think it is was great that they differed in there answers. It shows that while we might like the same books, we probably like them for different reasons.
